Fresh off earning her CrossFit Level I certification, Amanda has wholeheartedly adopted the Kingfield banner of "No crowns. Just courage." Having moved from Reno, NV, she came to us looking for a new CrossFit home a little under a year ago now. Proud of her as coaches, Amanda always puts in the work and effort and is constantly seeking to improve her skills and round out her fitness. We're excited and honored to add her to our staff as she begins to co-coach our teens program this spring!
WHY DO YOU DO CROSSFIT?
I started because I wanted to learn how to properly lift heavier things -- not only that, but I desperately wanted to be a part of something that was empowering, uplifting and that held me accountable. CrossFit isn't about who has the best physique or who has the coolest gym threads -- it's about showing up and working hard every single day, with people who push you (sometimes more than you're ready for). Not every community is like this though, my love for CrossFit has increased since joining Kingfield because this "No Crowns, Just Courage" motto is no bullshit. I CrossFit because I love it -- and I love working out with everyone at CFK! [insert sappy music here, errrrybody]
HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOU?
It's tough to put into words sometimes... my body has changed in the best of ways, but most importantly my confidence has improved 10 FOLD. Things that I once thought were absolutely impossible are now things I do frequently... Never in my life did I imagine squatting 205# was something I'd be able to accomplish! It's incredible to think that once upon a time, I was unable to do a pull-up or correctly squat over 185#. Life is wild.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO KEEP COMING BACK?
Improvements -- even if they're small (like 10 unbroken pull-ups) -- just knowing that you're doing cooler shit than the day before, and ultimately chasing [insert a goal here] is motivating.
DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO? SOMETHING YOU TELL YOURSELF WHEN YOU'RE FIGHTING THROUGH A WORKOUT? IF SO, DO YOU MIND SHARING IT?
Adapt and overcome, my hockey coach said this CONSTANTLY during our time together and I can apply it to just about anything. That cheeseburger too big? Adapt and overcome. Oh, clusters are tough? Adapt and overcome.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?
Hmmm -- I love to deadlift, I like KB swings and DB movements!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?
Pizza - I could eat it every single day, seriously. If calories weren't a thing -- pizza would be consumed 24/7.
WHAT'S YOUR POWER SONG?
There's so many great candidates -- since music is seriously such a huge and important aspect of my life! If I could narrow it to just ONE... it would be, "Overcome" by a band called Terror -- give it a listen and tell me it isn't tight!
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT WE DON'T ALREADY KNOW:
I've never been on a roller coaster because heights are my biggest fear -- someone should take me to Camp Snoopy [aka Nick-a whatever] in MOA because I'd like to conquer this fear!
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL?
A panda bear - because they enjoy eating food, they're totally okay with being a little different, and they're clumsy as shit. That's essentially me in a nutshell.
