A bit about: Jeremy Striffler

WHY DO YOU DO CROSSFIT?

I started CrossFit in 2011 because it was better than anything I was doing on my own, which was pretty minimal. I continued because it has helped me be in the best shape of my life. It also introduced me to an amazing community here in Minneapolis and around the country. My life in this city began once I started going to CrossFit.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOU?

‘Get angry!’ I’m a very positive, nice guy type and so to really push myself and go all beast mode, I have to tell myself to dig, get pissed off and fight like hell.
— Jeremy, on what he tells himself when fighting through a workout

CrossFit helped me find my confidence. It led to me competing and taking risks, both inside and outside the gym. The journey is not complete but I would not have bought my house or taken on my job as a real estate broker or run two 1\2 marathons or 3 Tough Mudderz if it wasn't for CrossFit. I would have never taken muay thai lessons in Thailand or surf lessons in Nicaragua if CrossFit didn't give me the confidence to move outside my comfort zone.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO KEEP COMING BACK?

The constant "wow" factor. If I take a breathe and think about what I just did, like a 3-rep max deadlift or climb a rope or do a handstand walk, I still amaze myself. The volume of work, the constant drilling of technique and form, the daily WODs - we all have to remind ourselves how amazing we are that we allow ourselves to move like this. It's not the norm, but it's great!

DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO? SOMETHING YOU TELL YOURSELF WHEN YOU'RE FIGHTING THROUGH A WORKOUT? IF SO, DO YOU MIND SHARING IT?

"Get angry!" I'm a very positive, nice guy type and so to really push myself and go all beast mode, I have to tell myself to dig, get pissed off and fight like hell.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?

I love "Murph" and everything that surrounds it each Memorial Day. I've suffered through it the past two years with the weight vest and the workout has become ingrained in me as the way to kick off summer.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

My favorite food is veal parmesan, which I actually never get to eat because Italian food is not very good in Minnesota. (Sorry, I was spoiled and got to eat it on the regular in Yonkers and the Bronx growing up out East.)

WHAT'S YOUR POWER SONG?

"Gonna Fly Now". The Rocky movies are my favorite. I'll talk your head off about why "Creed" was better than the new "Mad Max" and "Star Wars". And so this song pumps through my veins.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT WE DON'T ALREADY KNOW.

Most people might have caught on that I am not a native of Minnesota. I grew up in New York and Connecticut. But what they probably don't know at all is that I lived in Rome, Italy for two years. It was a transformative experience in my albeit short adult life.

WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL?

Siberian Husky. Beautiful, smart and hard working with an agreeable disposition. And of you let them, they'll run like hell.
